The Summit Choral Society's children's program, Summit Children's Choir (SCC), is a music education and performance program for children and youth emphasizing individual understanding and development of musical skills. It is one of Northeast Ohio's premiere choral arts organizations!
We hold interview/auditions for children in second through eighth grades for the Summit Children’s Choir program. Auditions are held in January, May and September.
Your singer should come to the interview prepared to sing a familiar song of any length. The children will be asked a few questions about their own interest and experience in music. During the interview, parents and/or guardians will learn more about the Summit Children's Choir program. The session will take less than one hour. Children accepted into the SCC program will be notified of their acceptance and class level immediately upon the completion of their audition.

Our comprehensive choral music program emphasizes vocal growth, music literacy and performance readiness. It is designed to be a natural supplement for school music programs.
Each child is individually evaluated and placed into one of seven different training ensembles (levels) matched to their own musical experience and demonstrated skill level. The singers then attend weekly training/rehearsal sessions with our Kodaly-trained professional music teachers from September through May on Monday evenings at Coventry High School. Each singer progresses at his/her own speed and ability to grasp the musical skills required for advancing to the next training level. During the season, the children develop as an ensemble and the season includes concert performances.
Tuition for the entire 2009/2010 season is $395 per child. Many families choose a monthly payment plan which is available through the Summit Choral Society Office.
Vocal teachers and vocal instructors from The University of Akron recommend the training of the Summit Children's Choir Program over voice lessons for young children's voices.
We also offer a Summer Vocal Camp experience (auditions are not required for camp) each year for one week in June -- also at Coventry High School. Call our offices at 330-434-7464 to sign up. The week culminates in a performance with all singers!
